My Two Souths

My Two Souths takes you on a culinary journey with Chef Asha Gomez, from her small village in the Kerala region of southern India to her celebrated restaurants in Atlanta, and on into your kitchen. Her singular recipes are rooted in her love of Deep-South cooking, as well as the Southern Indian flavors of her childhood home. These “Two Souths” that are close to her heart are thousands of miles apart, yet share similarities in traditions, seasonings, and most importantly, an abiding appreciation of food as both celebration and comfort.  At this demonstration, Asha will prepare tomato clove preserve, served on crostini.

 

Pitmaster: Recipes, Techniques, and Barbecue Wisdom

Andy Husbands is an award-winning chef, restaurateur, and author who has been nominated twice for the James Beard Foundation’s “Best Chef” award. His Boston-based restaurants, Tremont 647 and the recently opened Smoke Shop, have received numerous accolades from the press and food industry. A finalist and a former competitor on Hell's Kitchen with Gordon Ramsay, Andy is the co-author, along with award-winning BBQ pitmaster Chris Hart, of several books, including Wicked Good Barbecue, Grill to Perfection, and the forthcoming, Pitmaster: Recipes, Techniques, and Barbecue Wisdom (Quarto). Andy will demo BBQ and sides from his new book and share samples from each recipe.

Raghavan Iyer, an IACP Award–winning Teacher of the Year, is the author of Indian Cooking Unfolded, 660 Curries, Betty Crocker’s Indian Home Cooking, and the James Beard Award Finalist for The Turmeric Trail: Recipes and Memories from an Indian Childhood. He is a spokesperson and recipe consultant to General Mills, Target, and Canola, among others.  Mr. Iyer is also host of the Emmy-winning documentary Asian Flavors. Articles by him have appeared in print and online in Eating Well, Cooking Light, Fine Cooking, Saveur, and Gastronomica.
